Weight gain, the excess collection of fat tissue in many places, one of the most common is the chin and neck area. This area is a source of much unhappiness in the way people look and feel about themselves. The neck/face is one of the first and most noticeable places of unwanted fat, however, this is not a cause to be distraught about as there are many options to remove the unwanted and pesky “Double Chin”.

A double chin makes you appear much older than you are and causes embarrassment or discomfort when wearing clothing that exposes the neck area. Dr. Kole can help to address your concerns.

Double Chin Surgical Treatment Options

Dr. Kole offers his patients various procedural options, both surgical and non-surgical to remove this area of fat deposit and the visible signs of aging on the face and neck.

Kybella is a non-surgical treatment that is an injection into the area with deoxycholic acid which is a naturally occurring substance in your body that breaks down fat and melts it away through your body’s natural metabolism. Kybella treatment is noninvasive and has no downtime. The procedure usually takes 20-30 minutes. Dr. Kole successfully treats patients with mild to moderate amounts of excess fat in the double chin area with Kybella.

Chin liposuction (AKA submental liposuction) this procedure removes fat from beneath the skin and sculpts the chin and neck contour. Dr. Kole makes small incisions under your skin and inserts a small tube to “suck out” the unwanted fat tissue. This procedure is generally done using local anesthesia.

With chin liposuction you will have 3-5 days of downtime and some localized bruising and swelling. For best healing you will need to wear a chin strap for up to 2 weeks post procedure to help with swelling. Dr. Kole recommends liposuction if you have severe excess of fat in the double chin area.

Face Lift is a surgical procedure done under general anesthesia that allows Dr Kole to remove fat and loose, saggy skin around your chin and lower half of your face resulting in removing a double chin.

A facelift is usually not done for double chin removal alone but can address the double chin issue while helping to give a more youthful and tighter facial appearance. A face lift addresses common age-related issues such as removal of excess skin, smoothing out folds or wrinkles, jowls, and tightening facial tissue.

Recovery time is about 2 weeks after a face lift before you’re able to return to work. You’ll do most of your healing during the first week of your recovery, so make sure you clear out your calendar for this pivotal period of time.

Neck Lift The neck lift is done under general anesthesia to address a double chin by tightening of loose muscles with the removal of excess fat and skin. As we age, we can develop the unwanted double chin from the relaxation of muscle tone and loosening of skin in the neck and chin areaThe area around the neck and chin can become saggy and develop “turkey neck” and a double chin. With a neck lift, Dr. Kole addresses both issues and can restore the natural contours of the neck and jawline.

Most people who have undergone a neck lift will notice that pain, swelling and bruising resolve within two weeks, and the new contours of the neck will start to be visible. Scars will gradually fade over the course of six months.
