CoolSculpting® is an advanced fat reduction treatment that requires no surgery or downtime. The procedure works by freezing fat cells which then die and are absorbed by the body. Although this is a relatively simple procedure, CoolSculpting® is not the best option for everyone who wants to eliminate fat. With a quick test, though, you can know if you are a good candidate for CoolSculpting®.
Criteria for CoolSculpting® Treatments
By performing a simple physical evaluation on your own, you can know if you are a good preliminary candidate for CoolSculpting® treatments. Before you perform the test, though, you should already be following a healthy routine of eating properly and exercising. CoolSculpting® is not a weight loss solution, but rather a cosmetic technique for eliminating fat that cannot be removed with dieting and exercise.
The primary consideration for CoolSculpting® is how tight the fat is in the desired treatment area. This is important because of how the treatment works to eliminate excess fat. To perform the test, follow these steps:
- Use your thumb and forefinger to gently pinch tissue in the desired treatment area.
- Once you have hold of the tissue, pull it away from your body.
If you are able to grasp and pull the tissue, this is a good sign that you may be a candidate for CoolSculpting®.
What to Expect
So how much can CoolSculpting® help with stubborn fat? Based on clinical studies and practical experience, Dr. Kole is able to achieve a 20% to 25% average reduction in fat. This result is greatly affected by how well the tissue can be pulled into the hand piece of the CoolSculpting® system which is why the tightness of the fat is a consideration.
Dr. Kole does not recommend CoolSculpting® for the outer thighs due to the nature of fat in this area. The treatment works best on the arms, inner thighs, lower abdomen, fat along the bra strap, excess breast tissue in men and love handles.
