Television, music and movie celebrities are some of the most influential trendsetters in the world. With just one photo, these icons introduce both subtle and dramatic statements with their bodies, clothing, hairstyles, automobiles, lifestyles and much more. One of the most recent influences to come out of Hollywood is a curvaceous bottom. Thanks in part to Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj and other beauties, many women are now turning to plastic surgeons to enhance and perfect their backsides, giving rise to butt augmentation as one of the most popular procedures in the field.
Most Popular Cosmetic Procedures
An estimated 10,000,000 plastic surgery procedures were performed last year. Surprisingly, breast augmentation has fallen from the most requested to the second-most requested procedure, and liposuction is now in the lead. The increased demand for liposuction may be due to Baby Boomers fighting the Battle of the Bulge or because more young people are seeking plastic surgery to maintain their youthfulness.
Liposuction, though, does have some drawbacks. The recovery can be uncomfortable. The most common symptoms include swelling, tenderness and bruising. Also, the skin may not have enough elasticity to re-contour to the body. Some men and women may find that liposuction removed the unwanted fat but left them with embarrassingly saggy, loose skin. Although liposuction is one of the longest-standing procedures, it still poses risks. Although rare, the most serious complication of liposuction is dislodging fat or blood clots that can travel to the lungs.
Minimally-invasive procedures also remain popular amongst men and women of all ages with Botox® at the top of the list. Botox® treatments are a safe and effective way to reduce lines and wrinkles. Side effects of the injections are rare, limited only to bruising, swelling and tenderness at the injection sites. Fillers, such as Juvederm®, are also desirable amongst men and women to enhance facial features and reduce the signs of aging by adding volume to the skin. Like Botox®, dermal fillers result in few, if any, side effects.
Growing Demand for Butt Augmentation
Enhancing the natural contours of the body has always been a cosmetic goal for men and women. Plastic surgery offers options for improving the breasts, hips, abdomen and other troublesome areas. Enhancing the buttocks, though, has remained a lower priority for patients over the years. As celebrities showcase their voluptuous backsides, though, more and more women want round, full buttocks, and butt augmentation procedures have grown by 86% over the past two years.
Butt enhancement is achieved either through fat grafting or silicone implants depending on the degree of augmentation. When performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, the procedure is quite safe. The skills of the plastic surgeon are especially beneficial for butt augmentation to ensure a smooth, even and full appearance while maintaining overall body proportions.
The risks associated with butt augmentation increase when the procedure is performed by an unskilled surgeon. One of the most common post-surgical problems is movement of the silicone implants. If the implants are not placed and secured properly, they move out of position, causing embarrassing bulges and an asymmetrical appearance. Another unsafe practice for butt augmentation is injecting silicone into the buttocks. Doing so can lead to infections and even death.
Fat Removal
Fat removal procedures are not weight loss solutions. Rather, the procedures improve the contours of the body by removing unwanted bumps and bulges caused by fat. The treatments are also not recommended for cellulite. Tissue trauma and irregular results are the two reasons why men and women look for non-surgical alternatives to liposuction. The treatments involve applying a special device to the treatment area, such as the thighs, waistline, and abdomen. The procedure, known as CoolSculpting®, works by freezing fat cells. Once the cells are frozen, they break down, and the body absorbs and eliminates the fat.
CoolSculpting® is recommended for smaller fat deposits on the body. Men and women who have larger amounts of fat to remove should consider liposuction or laser-based non-surgical treatments, such as SmartLipo®. Due to the non-invasive nature of CoolSculpting®, post-treatment symptoms are mild to non-existent.
